PRESS RELEASE
EXHIBITION OF HAND BOUND BOOKS
Kindle your interest in the
permanence and beauty of books hand bound and exhibited by members of the NSW
Guild of Craft Bookbinders. Traditional hand
tooled bindings in leather and vellum in the English and European styles by
Sydney professional binders will be shown; others will represent contemporary
design bindings in which the binder expresses a response to the text of the
book. Members of the Study Groups will
show a Chinese scroll, medieval Coptic and Islamic books. Come and see artist and architectural books,
which focus on artistic content, rather than text. Some of these books will
also form an exhibition called Library Bound which will be circulated to
interested Libraries, so that people can see how a book is made and watch a
member demonstrate how a book is hand sewn. Bookbinding is deeply historical
and tells the story of our shared heritage in all cultures and from all
continents.
