Garry is an experienced binder and TAFE teacher.
Workshop Description
Letterpress Binding of a text block previously sewn on four recessed cords, laced into the cover boards, half bound in leather with raised bands on the spine, sides covered with bookcloth.
Using the following Tools
Bone folder, cutting and paring knives, board shears, straight edge, hammer, awl, paring stone, pencil and notebook.
The Bindery has tools to lend to participants if required.
Materials
Cartridge paper or similar for end leaves, approx.120gsm, bookcloth, headbands, strawboard,(2400 um), paste, PVA. Leather will be provided.
Skills Practiced
Sewing sections, and lacing in cover boards on recessed cords, preparing and affixing of end papers, spine linings, attaching head bands and raised spine bands, rounding and backing the textblock, paring leather both by hand and machine and binding in leather with raised bands.
